Linda Girdner, PhD, LCMFT (Psychotherapist, Reiki Master)

Linda Girdner’s primary mission is to alleviate suffering by helping people change through providing therapy to individuals, couples and families. Depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, chronic pain, troubled relationships, and major life transitions are the challenges that bring most clients to Linda. She is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist, a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and a Usui and Karuna Reiki Master.

Linda had twenty years experience in the field of divorce and custody conflicts as a mediator, trainer, professor, and researcher, when she felt called to become a psychotherapist and holistic practitioner. She already had a Ph.D. in Anthropology from The American University prior to earning a Masters of Science from the Clinical Program in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Maryland. Her unique background is invaluable in her work in helping clients find ways to balance mind, body, and spirit, self and other, and home and work in our rapidly changing culture.

Linda’s calm presence and healing intention enable her to learn how each person experiences the world and then to co-create a therapeutic path with the client. Linda is mindful of Carl Jung’s words: “Learn your theories as well as you can, but set them aside when you touch the miracle of a living soul.”

By providing a safe and caring environment, Linda encourages honest and authentic self-reflection. Linda can assist clients in seeing their strengths and challenges more clearly and facilitate their path to greater life satisfaction. Clients are gently encouraged to practice what they have learned in therapy in their everyday lives.

Linda believes that sustaining a good marriage is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. She helps couples decrease the frequency of their negative dance and learn better ways to communicate that can extend mutual respect, understanding, and connection, as well as enhance intimacy. Couples are welcome regardless of marital status and sexual orientation.

Linda’s main focus in working with families is in helping them through major transitions. She understands the importance of each family member feeling heard and learning together how to increase their resilience, and decrease destructive conflict, in the face of change.

As a Karuna and Usui Reiki Master, Linda is able to provide this gentle healing art in the context of therapy or as a separate service. For more information, see Reiki and Psychotherapy under the Services heading.

Linda offers a free initial consultation and can assist clients in identifying their possible out of network insurance benefits. She accepts payment in cash, check, Master Card, and Visa. Linda also sees clients at her home office in Gambrills under the name Positive Energy Solutions. See www.PositiveEnergySolutions.Net.
